Wajid Hasan Shah

Wajid Hasan Shah has joined the Bangladesh Competition Commission as Member (Business-Trade, Economics and Research) on January 7, 2025. He is currently also overseeing the responsibilities of Member (Advocacy, Policy and International Relations) at the Commission.

Wajid had served as Director (Studies) at the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (2020-22) and as a Research Fellow (initially Research Associate) at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) for most of his professional life (17+ years, 2001-2018). He has significant consulting exposure, and has consulted for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), various UN organizations (FAO, ILO, IOM, UNDP, UN WOMEN, WFP, WHO, etc.), and the World Bank. He was involved in an EU Bangladesh Country Strategy Evaluation, a UNDP Bangladesh Country Programme Document (CPD) formulation, and contributed to the preparation of the UN's interim Socio-Economic Recovery Framework for Bangladesh during the COVID-19 outbreak.

His areas of interest include capital markets, competition policy, economic growth & development, evaluations, finance & banking, foreign direct investment (FDI), food security, labor, migration and remittances, private sector development, public policy, SMEs/MSMEs, trade, etc.

Wajid has an MBA in Development Management from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) [University of Dhaka], an MA in Economics from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and graduated Cum Laude (with Honors) with a Bachelor of Science [major: Economics;  minor: Mathematics] from Truman State University [USA].

He has presented papers and attended workshops/seminars/trainings in various countries, including Belgium, China, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Italy, Thailand and the USA.
