Mr. A. H. M. Ahsan is the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Competition Commission. Prior to assuming the position on 07 January 2025, he served in the Export Promotion Bureau as CEO & Vice- Chairman for more than 4 years. He has vibrant and diverse experience of working with the Govt. of Bangladesh for long 33 years.

Mr. Ahsan joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in January 1991 and worked in the Department of Taxes in different capacities – as Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Joint Commissioner in various Taxes Zone, and as Second Secretary and First Secretary in the National Board of Revenue. He was promoted to the post of Deputy Secretary in 2009 and joined in the Foreign Trade Agreement (FTA) Wing of the Ministry of Commerce in 2012. He also served as Joint Secretary (FTA) in the same Ministry where he was responsible for trade negotiation, bilateral (South Asia) trade issues and regional trade agreement & cooperation. He also worked as Director at the Prime Minister’s Office during 2005-2007 and as Commercial counsellor in Bangladesh High Commission, London during 2007-2012.

Mr. Ahsan holds a long experience on issues related to taxation, business, management, trade promotion, trade negotiation, regional & international trade cooperation etc. His experience at the taxes department and long engagement with the private sector business enterprises have empowered him to understand the legal and corporate affairs. He has attended a number of Trade Ministers’ Conferences, bilateral Commerce Secretary level meetings, trade promotion , trade negotiations as member of the Bangladesh Delegation at home and abroad.  He also attended a number of high level conferences, seminars and workshops on international trade & investment promotion and economic development in various countries.

Mr. Ahsan studied in the University of Dhaka and received graduation (with Hon’s) and post-graduation degrees in Economics. Having First Class at Graduation level, he also secured positions in the Merit List of the Dhaka Board in the SSC and HSC exam. He also holds a Master’s in Development Economics from the Institute of Social Studies, the Netherlands.

Apart from local training on taxation, administration, management and public policy, Mr. Ahsan also attended a number of training programs on economic development, trade promotion, domestic resource mobilization, public policy, administration at home and abroad.

Mr. Ahsan hails from Madaripur district. He is married and blessed with two sons.
